Petrified Forest, Uncovered for First Time

I lived in Auckland, 3km from this beach for 40 years. For the very first time, low tide uncovered this Petrified Forest and volcanic ash/mud on Takapuna Beach. Once this forest went from here through to Great Barrier Island, but Rangitoto put paid to that when it erupted - approximately 600 years ago. The volcano has been dormant since, and can be seen here in the distance. It's one of Auckland's Icons, and a view that is missed now I live in the South Island. A stunning winters day, and I even got a photo of someone sunbathing in a Bikini.

A lock attached to a fence in Dubrovnik. These are springing up all over Europe but only a few here on this fence so far. I thought it makes a lovely contrast with the colours of that adriatic sea and the bright red lock.

Two friends out walking the dog on Rarangi beach after the storm. The sea was still very heavy swells rolling in one after the other. I have never seen it like this before. This is actually a colour print, but because I was shooting into the sun, it gave off this silver glow and silhouetted the men.

Lake Hawea at sunset.  We had had a bit of snow the night before. So it was crisp clear and cold and fresh snow on the top of the ridges. I broke my ankle five minutes before I took this image.  I still managed to walk over, (limp over), and take this photo despite the pain.  Even I am amazed at my resilience!

Beach Romance

Underwater Rope Garden

Beautiful old ropes under the water.  These ropes were quite deep, but the water is clean and crystal clear in the Marlborough Sounds so you can see quite far down.  I love how life has adapted to weave their roots into the rope for a whole new underwater rope garden.

We were just leaving Venice to go back to pick up our luggage before leaving for Milan and this is one of the final parting shots of Venice I took on my camera.  I turned 50 on this day so it is a day etched permanently in my mind.  If I could live in Venice, I would be there already!

Taken at Lake Wanaka last week.  It was pouring with rain and quite dark so used an aperture of 22 to slow down the shutter to get the milky look of the lake.  This is the most photographed tree in New Zealand.

Dreaming of Sunny Days

Snoozing for a week on these chairs is just what the doctor ordered!  I took this image in Santorini.  It's what we did on day two of our trip after tearing round the island on quadbikes the day before!
