The Pink Rosebud

Canon 7D, 100mm Macro Lens, Textured Overlay on background only.

Beautiful Rosebud.  I'm surprised the roses are still flowering as we're in drought - and have had only one light bit of rain since Feb 6th.  It's now end of March and still no rain is in sight, nor has autumn really made a mark with long hot sunny days.  I'm actually ready for cooler temperatures.

Bumbly Bee

Canon 7D, 100mm Macro Lens

There's so many things I love about this image. The detail on the wings of the bee, the fly sitting up on top of the plant, and the spider web leading out of the image.  I only saw the fly and the web when the image came onto my computer - until then I was only concentrating on photographing the bee!

Briar Rose

Canon 7D, 100mm Macro Lens

Briar Rose taken by the Lakeside of Lake Wanaka.  These roses were growing abundantly all round. In World War II people used to pick the Rose Hips to make Rosehip Syrup from these plants - a great source of vitamin C.  Small flowers but still very pretty, but had to watch those thorns!

The Pink Lotus

Canon 7D, 18-55mm Lens at 31mm, On Tripod

Taken at Wrights Water Gardens in South Auckland a number of years ago, just revisited and reworked some of my images from that trip and found this.  Lotus flowers are simply beautiful.  The Lotus Festival at Wrights Water Gardens is every February and is well worth a visit, so if you're in Auckland make sure you go nice and early.  The gardens are stunning and it makes you feel you've just been thrust into a Monet painting.

The Colour of Early Summer in Mackenzie Country

Canon 7D, 10-22mm Lens

Hope I'm not boring you with the most amazing paddock of Wild Lupins in the Lindis Pass.  It's by Bridge 2360 if you're down that way.  We just climbed over the padlocked fence and played with a cameras in this field for a couple of hours. Beautiful willow trees, a beautiful river, and an seemingly unending field of Lupins. That's what I call Bliss. All along the side of the roads and rivers in the Mackenzie country these lupins grow, in white, yellow, pink, blues and purples.  The best time of the year to see them is mid December when they are at their best.

The Wild Lupins of Lindis Pass

Canon 7D, 10-22mm Lens at 10mm

We were driving in the Lindis Pass and from the road could see this field of Lupins that stretched for miles. After parking the car and climbing over two fences, we spent two hours photographing in this ‘paddock’ by the river. It was simply amazing. I used a mixture of Landscape and Macro lenses and will try and upload a few of these in the next week or so.

The Wild Lupins of Lindis Pass

Canon 7D, 10-22mm Lens

The most amazing field of Wild Lupins at Lindis Pass. We saw this from the road, parked the car, climbed over two fences and spent 2 hours in this spot photographing this magical place amongst he flowers. The Lupins stretched literally for miles, all along the river on both sides of the bank. I nearly stayed at home this day as I broke my ankle the night before, but am so pleased I didn't let a bone break ruin this opportunity!

Pink Poppy

Canon 7D, 100mm Macro Lens

Beautiful Poppy taken at Pollard Park the other day. Was very lucky to get this as it was really windy and the poppy was blowing around a lot. Love the depth of colour.

Textured Rose

Canon 7D, 100mm Macro Lens, Texturd Overlay

Love this macro of a rose, with the textured overlay. Taken at Puzzling world in Wanaka after some rain. The flowers were not totally exposed to the elements as there was shelter nearby, hence they were in very good condition.

The Lupins at Lindis Pass

Canon 7D, 18-55mm Lens

We came across a valley of Wild Lupins that stretched for kilometres in the Lindis Pass. We couldn't resist and climbed through padlocked gates to photograph here for several hours. This is just a taster, one image of about 500 I took but gives you an idea what it was like.  To emphasise how many Lupins were there, I've added a second photo of selective colouring of the Lupins only.  A magical day.

Pink Clematis

Canon 7D, 100mm Macro Lens

The Clematis is one of my favourite flowers.  They are so stunning no matter what the size or colour.  This one I photographed yesterday, and I was surprised to see them, as they usually flower a lot earlier, and have a short flowering life.  Not complaining though as I missed them in November when there were a lot around, but never any when I had my camera!

A Perfect Red Rose

Canon 7D, 100mm Macro Lens

Trying to keep the theme red leading up to Christmas.  Another beautiful Red Rose taken at Pollard Park in Marlborough a few days ago. Handheld Macro.  Been doing a lot of macro photography in the past week all enthused after taking a workshop for our beginners C grade group.  Their enthusiasm has rubbed off on me and now I'm finding all sorts of things in the macro world to photograph.

Petals Red

Buy Now

Canon 7D, 100mm Macro Lens

Taken at Pollard Park Yesterday on a overcast day which is perfect for red flowers.  I loved the way the petals were unfolding in this image.  I did try several different crops but for a change, centred was the best way to present this image so I'm breaking the rule of thirds.  Then again, rules are made to be broken. I used a textured overlay to get the effect.
