Hebe Speciosa

The Hebe shrubs in my garden are all in Flower. The Hebe is a Genus of plant native to New Zealand. The Genus is named after the Greek Goddess of Youth. White and purple flowers, bees are very attracted to them.

Beautiful Rosebud.  I'm surprised the roses are still flowering as we're in drought - and have had only one light bit of rain since Feb 6th.  It's now end of March and still no rain is in sight, nor has autumn really made a mark with long hot sunny days.  I'm actually ready for cooler temperatures.

Image put together for a club competition with a set subject of 'Before & After'.  Came up with a conceptual idea using tiny pieces of jewellery.  Had a lot of fun putting it together.

Bumbly Bee

There's so many things I love about this image. The detail on the wings of the bee, the fly sitting up on top of the plant, and the spider web leading out of the image.  I only saw the fly and the web when the image came onto my computer - until then I was only concentrating on photographing the bee!

Playing around in the grass, I sat myself high up a mountain in beautiful summer weather, and allowed myself to only take macro shots of what was immediately around me.  This is one successful image I was able to get.

Briar Rose

Briar Rose taken by the Lakeside of Lake Wanaka.  These roses were growing abundantly all round. In World War II people used to pick the Rose Hips to make Rosehip Syrup from these plants - a great source of vitamin C.  Small flowers but still very pretty, but had to watch those thorns!

Took this on one of my garden forays around Marlborough.  Beautiful white clematis.  I just love these flowers, they are always so beautiful no matter what the colour.  I'm always disappointed though that they only flower for such a short time in early spring.

Blue Lupin Bee

Had to do another Bee.  This time the bee is on a Lupin Flower. Through the macro lens, I watched the bee land on the lupin, then open up the flower pod, pull out the stamen, collect the pollen, then fly on to the next one. Some of the bees in this area were so laden down with pollen they could barely fly. With the naked eye, you couldn't see the work of opening the flower pods, so I'm thankful the Macro lens is teaching me the hidden world of nature.

Bumble Bee working on a herb in my garden. Shot with a continuous burst mode as they are always on the move.  I'm getting better on this setting of the camera - it used to be that out of 100 shots, only one or two would be in focus, but now, most of them are in focus so I'll have to remember this and take less images!

Pink Poppy

Beautiful Poppy taken at Pollard Park the other day. Was very lucky to get this as it was really windy and the poppy was blowing around a lot. Love the depth of colour.
